Breville BKC700XL Gourmet Single-Serve Coffeemaker with Iced-Beverage Function

Breville BKC700XL Gourmet Single-Serve Coffeemaker with Iced-Beverage Function

Product Description

Amazon.com Product Description
The best coffee is always the freshest coffee. That's why it makes no sense to brew by the pot: by the time you get around to drinking most of the joe, it's been sitting in a carafe (or worse, on top of a burner), going more bitter and stale with each minute. The Breville single-cup brewer takes a different approach. It makes coffee one cup at a time, so each cup tastes as fresh as the first one in the pot. The unit's LCD control panel includes a digital clock with auto on/off time, five brew strengths, and variable brew temperature, which allows for customizing each cup--perfect for households or dinner parties in which everyone likes a different brew. Best of all, the brewing process is very, very difficult to mess up. The Breville's patented "showerhead" sprays a precisely calibrated amount of water through a "K-Cup," a technology made famous by Keurig's single-cup brewers, using temperature and pressure designed to extract the maximum amount of flavor from the grounds. The unit provides a sample variety pack of single-use K-Cup coffee pods, including cocoa and tea, as well as a reusable My K-Cup that accepts any variety of ground coffee. The included My K-Cup and measuring spoon conveniently store in the brewer's top compartment. Furthermore, the machine comes with an iced-beverage function that dispenses a concentrated 3-1/2-ounce shot of tea or coffee. Simply dilute with ice and add water, milk, or sweeteners for an iced tea or coffee. Other highlights include low-noise pump technology for quiet brewing, a removable 60-ounce water tank that can brew up to 10 cups before it needs refilling, and a charcoal water-filtration system to reduce impurities for optimal taste. Made from heavy-duty stainless steel in a sleek, stylish design, the 1500-watt single-cup coffeemaker measures approximately 14-3/4 by 12-3/4 by 16-3/4 inches.

Review 1:
This is a replacement for a Keurig B-60 which we certainly enjoyed and was a very good machine. One of the reasons we chose the Breville is that our kitchen wall cabinets are 17" over the counter-tops. Could not leave the Keurig under the cabinets while making coffee, as the top would not open far enough to insert a K-Cup; not a problem with Breville, as the height of this unit is less. I know that's not an issue for most people but it was just a pain.

Anyone who owns a Keuring knows the noise they make, they sound like a B-52 coming in for a landing, surprisingly the Breville is quiet, really quiet! Now the dog can sleep through my morning coffee making ritual. This comes with a nice hidden storage space on top where the included reusable K-Cup and measuring scoop are stored, nice feature, if like me, you always misplace goodies like this.

The unit is obviously stainless steel, it is attractive in the kitchen---coffee makers are normally one of those things we leave on the counter all of the time. It dispenses four different cup sizes plus has an iced beverage setting, which I'll look forward to using this Summer. I would think that all K-Cup makers, make an equally good cup of coffee as they all work basically the same, could not make that an advantage for this maker. There is attention to detail, like the indicator on the cup platform to let you know if it needs to be emptied, the storage compartment, lighted water container etc.

Programming is intuitive. Setting the time for it to turn on and off, water temp., cup size and current time is a cake-walk. All controls are illuminated and easy to use. For some the price of this unit may be an issue, but when you consider it an appliance that gets used a lot and is left on the counter, the quality over other brands, the value is there! (Just made of cup of coffee while writing this, still blows me away just how quiet the Breville is).

I always get up in the morning several hours before my wife. I would make a pot of coffee, have several cups, it would then set there until she got up. Needless to say, what she got was not the greatest. Someone was talking about these K-Cup makers, I thought that would at least let her get a fresh cup when she got up.....so I bought one. Perfect! She became a happy camper first thing in the morning and we didn't have to dump coffee when I made too much----how sweet it is. Having a selection of different blends of coffee is nice too, everyone likes something different. The Keuring was used and used until we needed a replacement, certainly got my moneys worth. Went with this, and can say that there is value for the extra cost and we are more than pleased with the performance of the Breville. Once in a while I'll put a scoop of Folger's in the reusable K-Cup, and it is great tasting too, put a tea bag in and have a cup of tea.

I think you would be more than pleased with this coffee maker if you are looking for quality, ease of use, versatility and great looks. Every review should have something negative---well, here it is: The plug is three inches long, it has this do-nut hole to put your finger in to make it easy to remove from the wall plug, great idea, but it just makes it impossible to put the coffee maker close to the wall when the plug is behind it. A thoughtful idea and probably not a problem for anyone else----just happens, our maker sits in front of the plug. Pathetic I know, but, I just had to get it out!

If you do make this purchase I really hope that you are as pleased as we are and get equal enjoyment from using it.

Review 2:
I have been using a Keurig B70 for a couple of years. I was having issues with coffee grounds overflowing into my morning cup of joe (nothing wakes you up faster than choking on a mouthful of coffee grinds). I purchased this new unit because of the claim that it was quieter and has an iced tea setting. All I can say is...wow! This unit did not disappoint. It is whisper quiet compared to the other Keurig models. Now I'm not afraid to brew a cup early in the morning while others are sleeping. I am very happy with this upgrade.....and no more coffee grounds.

Review 3:
If you are trying to choose between the Keurig and the Breville, this review is for you. I now have experience with both and can tell you unequivocally that the Breville is the better machine.

I started a year ago with the top-of-the-line Keurig. It made an OK cup of coffee and got my family hooked on the single-cup concept. We cannot agree on what makes a good cup of coffee, so with the Keurig, we could each select our own. And, we could have fresh coffee, tea or iced beverage any time of day with no hassle. Before long, I had an entire cupboard dedicated to K-cups.

There were two problems: The coffee was OK but not great -- it lacked complexity and depth. You could get a strong cup of coffee by selecting the strongest roasts, but that produced a harsh coffee without any nuance. That is not a satisying cup of coffee. But worse, the stupid machine kept breaking down. It seemed to get confused and would freeze up. It said "brewing" but in fact, nothing was happening. At first, you could re-start the machine by unplugging it and "rebooting" it. Before long, that stopped being effective and I could find nothing to correct the problem.

I went through three Keurigs in less than one year. It was the same problem every time. Amazon was great and stood behind the machine, shipping me new ones. But with the warranty about to expire and the machine, once again, not working, I bit the bullet and went for the much more expensive Breville.

It's a great looking machine. It heats the water hotter and more consistently than the Keurig, which I realized immediately was the reason the Keurig coffee was only fair, not great. So the Breville does indeed produce a much better cup of coffee. And so far (after three months) it has not broken down. Each of the Keurig coffeemakers starting acting flaky within three months, so I'm taking this as a good sign and, with fingers crossed, believe that this will prove to be a reliable machine.

I've spoken with friends who have used Keurig for years without problems. I don't know why I have had such lousy luck with them. But I also have friends who have used both the Breville and the Keurig and, among those users, we all agree the Breville makes better coffee.

FOLLOW-UP It's been over 18 months and the Breville is still working fine.

Review 4:
I've been wanting a pod coffeemaker for some time now. I'm glad I waited to purchase this model. After having it only one day - I used it 6 times for both my daughter and I. The coffee strength is good for prepackaged k-cups and making my k-cups is easy. I ground my own coffee beans fine and weighed about 12 grams of the fine coffee into the mesh basket. I selected the 7.25 oz size and my coffee came out perfectly. I used the my k-cup for tea and hot chocolate too. For my tea, I opened 2 tea bags and finely ground the leaves and then placed them in the basket (basket about 1/2 full) and selected 7.25 oz and my tea came out awesome. I wanted more tea, and I used the same grounds but on the 5.25 setting, and it was another perfect cup! For hot chocolate (Godiva powder) I measured again about 12 grams of fine powder and selected 7.25 oz and again another perfect cup. I'm pleased with the quality of the taste of prepackaged k-cups and my experiences making my k-cups.

This product is very easy to use and it's quiet. The water heats up quickly and you have a cup of whatever you want in less than 20 seconds and clean up is easy. I like that I don't have the hassle of coffee filters, cleaning coffee pots and throwing away coffee I couldn't drink. I enjoy that my guests can choose what they want to drink and that there is always a fresh cup. The bonus is that this product looks great on my countertop. I own other Breville products and can say that their quality is definitely high end.

Review 5:
I researched for about a month or 2 before deciding on this machine. I watched video demonstrations and read just about every review posted on the web for just about every single serve brewer available for purchase. Functionally, this machine isn't very different than the keurig b70. After watching some video demos I believe this machine is a little quieter and also has an iced coffee function. The biggest differences between the two machines are the cost and build. The keurig is mainly plastic and the breville is mainly stainless steel. It seems I've read about a high failure rate for most of these types of single serve brewers. I'm keeping my fingers crossed and watched the breville troubleshooting videos on YouTube. Hopefully with proper maintenance and care this machine will last. As other reviewers have reported, some k-cups in general are on the weak side no matter which brewer you choose so I brew all medium blends at the smaller cup size and steer clear of lighter blends altogether. Coffee from this machine smells great, has great flavor (if you choose a k-cup you like) is piping hot and brews super fast. And it's surprisingly quiet. This is a plus with the new baby. Overall I'm very pleased with the purchase. I think the b70 can brew iced coffee even without the added feature but my personal belief is that if the cost is cheap and the feel is cheap, than it's cheap. sometimes you get what you pay for so I don't mind dishing out the extra cash for the solid feel, extra iced coffee feature (which my husband and I live off of all summer) and quieter brewing. I also forgot to mention the my k-cup storage compartment. Its nice not to have to worry about keeping track of accessories. Oh, one additional reason I chose the breville is while reviewers of both brands complained of problems with their machines, it seemed to me that there were more positive experiences reported when dealing with breville customer service vs keurig. Just my opinion after months of reading. I'm sure both machines can produce a great cup of coffee. Happy shopping!

Cuisinart Single Serve Coffee Maker for K-Cups

Customer Reviews
Review 1:
This coffee maker makes a great cup of coffee! I have increased my coffee consumption beyond just initial wake up and breakfast. It was kinda hard to justify the price at first, but with family encouraging me, I purchased this model from Bed Bath & Beyond with a 20% off coupon.

There was a small learning curve and adjustment to make, but it was worth it. I have many 14 and 16 oz mugs from around the world and have become used to drinking a couple of 14 oz cups each morning. However I quickly learned that even the 12 oz setting with the K-cup caused the coffee to be too weak for my taste. I settled on using the 8 oz and 10 oz settings, depending on the coffee used. The increase in flavor, taste and consistency over even the best of pot brewed coffee - more than made up for the decrease in amount.

The price of the K-cups are too expensive to continue using them at the rate of 6 to 10 a day, every day, and my personal favorite coffees are not available in K-cups anyway. A a result, I use the included "make your own" filter most of the time and make my favorite coffees. This setup works great and has very consistent flavor. I have ordered the Solo-cup and EZ cup and will try them when they arrive.

My wife noted that I don't just stand at the coffeemaker waiting on the coffee anymore. It is fast and convenient and every cup is fresh and hot like that first cup from a brewer. I can't go back to the old way. I am glad my family urged me to get it.

Review 2:
I cannot believe how good this product is in combination with Keurig's K-cup system. We've owned the Bosch Tassimo and loved that for the last year until we couldn't get the descale light to go away, plus the selection was quite limited to Starbucks and Gevalia. Both good brews (not great), but in comparison to the variety of the K-cup system they look and taste paltry in comparison. Caribou Coffee is a mirror image (tastewise) of what you buy in stores and the Donut Shop blend from the Coffee People is incredible as well. For a bigger kick Emeril's Bold and Easy is fantastic, or you can brew your own blend of whatever you like in the reusable cup which Cuisinart nailed. Coarse ground coffees fresh from Dunkin Donuts come out very weak and are not advisable, but their Turbo Hot blend sold in grocery stores brews FANTASTIC as it has a finer grind. I think you can re-grind coarse coffee in a burr grinder to get a deeper brew.

Again, if you love coffee and you love the idea of the single brew system then this Cuisinart is for you. It's a solid machine that brews a very impressive cup of joe from a variety of vendors.

Review 3:
This is my third k-cup brewer. The 5 cup selection is the best! Using the 4 Oz iced settings makes very good espresso to my taste. If it were possible I would rate this as a 10 star review. My bride of 49 years like her tea strong and the 6 Oz is just right. As we are both retired we set the auto on to 07:00 and off at 22:00 (10:00 PM). We consume about 80 Oz of coffee/tea daily and the reservoir of 80 Oz only requres a daily filling most days. Crusinart got this one right even better than their grind & brew makers.

Review 4:
Pros: After reading the reviews posted here and purchasing the system, I will add my review. First off, our systems works without any flaws in its computer programming. The pump works, the needles are not clogged and the proper amount of liquid is dispensed for any setting. That said, we followed all written directions and began to use the K-cups. Some of the coffee was too strong for our taste at a setting of 8 oz. So, if that is the case, just up the amount brewed to 10 or 12 oz. If coffee is too weak for your taste, then purchase K-cups that say extra-bold on their label. They contain more coffee for larger cups or stronger taste.
Next, we used the coffee filter system that allows you to brew using your own coffee. We followed directions and did not overfill the top of the filter. We never had any grounds in our cup. Next, the coffee filter can hold about 2 spoon fills of ground coffee. The taste of your coffee will depend on how much you put into the filter holder and how coarse or fine the grind is. Fine grinds work best. There is also the option to purchase the Solofill K-cup which I have not yet tried.

Overall the unit heats quickly and does what it says. there is flexibility in producing the coffee to your taste. Work with it to produce the cup your own brain likes.

Con: Even though we set it up per directions, our water output had a strong plastic taste coming from the unit. We brewed 10 cups, did 4 rinses and 3-4 hot waters and the plastic taste was still not acceptable. I did a little research and found persons had used vinegar to rid this taste. So, I removed the charcoal filter, filled up the holding tank with 9 parts tap water and 1 part white vinegar ( 8 oz.,10%), let it sit for 5 minutes and then began using rinse, brew and hot water dispense cycles. I did this, adding fresh water as the tank empties till a total of about 25 cycles were run. The smell of the plastic vapor was gone. I then rinsed out the tank completely, and continued brewing until there was no more vinegar odor coming from the hot water that was dispensed. I then brewed again, let the water cool and compared it to water from the tap and from our filtered water on the fridge. It no longer had any plastic taste and our coffee is much improved.

So overall, if the machine holds up, I think it is excellent. If it breaks, then that is another matter.

Review 5:
First of all I must say I did not purchase this unit threw Amazon.com, but it is a great forum for product reviews. This model appears to be the second generation, so some of the "bugs" of the first model have been fixed. I was not looking for a new coffee maker, honestly, I received it threw my employers rewards program. It was probably the only item that interested me, so I read the reviews on here and took the plunge. It is a pricey item but is very well made and should provide years of service. Now, this world of gormet coffee makers is all new to me. I was perfectly satisfied with a can of Folgers and my Mr Coffee. However, the first cup with this new brew system was a real treat!
It will open up a whole new world of coffee blends for you one cup at a time. You can adjust the strenth of the coffee simply by making a larger cup. I also enjoyed the other choice of hot apple cider in the k cups. The hot chocolate, milk and dark chocolate, I found to be just OK. You can rinse the machine after brewing one of those choices and it will not interfer with the taste of your next cup of coffee.
Anyhow, I have ordered several different varities of k cup blends to try and find this to be a real adventure. If your on the fence about purchasing this brewing system, I say it will be a treat for you and your entire family. I also have the k cup lazy susan dispenser on the counter and it looks great together and functions well. when company comes over, this is a real conversation piece and everyone chooses their own blend and makes their own cup...or two. It's a lot of fun, my friends bring the desert and I supply the coffee. A good deal all the way around. Buy it and have fun!

Review 6:
I reviewed all of the various Keurig coffeemakers and chose Cuisinart because it had several features the others did not. Plus, Cuisinart makes high-quality products and this is no exception. Very simple to use, and I have had ZERO PROBLEMS. I have brewed over 50 cups already, and still no problems. I bought mine at Kohl's with an extra 30% off coupon I received as a Kohl's MVP customer. Bed Bath & Beyond has a huge assortment of K cups, and you can use your 20% off coupon. The coffeemaker comes with a really good troubleshooting guide in case you have any problems. I bought the carousel that you can store the K Cups in, and I feel like I have my own coffee shop right in my own home!! I do run the "rinse" cycle between brews so that the lines are always clean for the next cup. This is important if you brew hot chocolate, because apparently it can clog the lines. Also important if you have a tea drinker in your house who doesn't want their tea to taste like coffee! I can't say enough about this coffeemaker. It is ready to brew its second cup almost immediately. I can use my huge coffee mug and brew back-to back 8 oz's into it, for a very large cup of morning joe!

Review 7:
We have had several different pod use coffeemakers. All of them delivered about the same taste, but this one wins because of two features--it's quiet and the water reservoir holds much more

Review 8:
So I waited a while to get on the Keurig bandwagon because I didn't want to use the k-cups. But I had an ailing cappucino machine that needed replacing, so when I saw this and I could use my own coffee I decided to take the plunge. Very happy so far! Piping hot coffee, nice hot water feature for tea and oatmeal, etc. Even my hubby started drinking coffee again :) A few pointers:

1. I heeded the advice of the other posters and don't take the tank off to refill it.
2. Using your own coffee is a little tricky in getting the right ratio - the coffee has to be pretty finely ground to make it taste un-watery. It does say NOT to tamp the grounds and I found that helped - I'd missed that in the directions first time around.
3. The use-your-own-grounds thing gets a little messy but very worth it.
4. I will say that even tho I said no k-cups... they taste pretty fantastic. The sampler package will have you hooked on at least one brand!

Incidentally, the capp machine I was replacing was a $1000 professional one from a fancy home store, a wedding gift from my hubby. It never made coffee that tastes as good as this $200 beauty. Buy and enjoy!

Review 9:
I have wanted a single serve brewing system for a few months now but was hesitant after reading so many poor reviews about long term performance. Based on reviewer feedback I decided to take my chances with this Cuisinart. Although I have not had it very long, I am absolutely in love! The convenience is not to be underestimated - no more washing out the coffee pot and preparing the coffee the night before. I programmed the Cuisinart to come on at 0500 in the morning, so it is ready when I am for an instant cup of coffee. We have happily tried all the versions of kcups that came in the variety pack, and I have found that if I use the bold flavors I can brew twice using the same kcup for a perfect strength of joe! I also took another reviewer's advice and add water with a pitcher instead of removing the tank each time and have not had any problems thus far with the pump. I highly recommend the Cuisinart!!!

Review 10:
We are very pleased with this purchase. The service was excellent and the coffee it produces (along with the ease of making it) renders the experience so pleasurable even in the morning hours when my eyes are hardly focused enough to look at the coffee maker! I also prefer this item to my former coffee maker because it is much easier to see the water level and appears to brew with more choices of size. Ultimately I would not (at present) want another brand in this line of product.

Customer Reviews

Review 1:
I have two other friends that have Keurig coffee makers. They have the Platinum edition Keurig maker, and although theirs has more options... like different brewing capacities I find that this Mr Coffee works perfect for me and I've never had problems with it. Both of my friends have had problems with theirs. One of them had theirs totally die on them. When I was reading reviews, I found that it's pretty common for these Keurig coffee makers to have problems... especially with the pumps. That's why it seems like this Mr. Coffee one seems better built and more reliable. I think this machine is perfect for someone who likes strong coffee with milk and sugar. That's because the brewing capacity of this coffee maker is only 8 ounces. I'd like to add that you can control how much the machine brews by measuring out the water yourself and putting it in the reservoir. It simply brews all the water in the reservoir but can't do over 8 ounces. For my needs, it's perfect! But for those of you who want a large cup of strong coffee, I would buy another coffee maker that has a larger brewing cup capacity. That's really the only potential negative thing about this coffee maker. It's fast, solid performance and ease of use are stellar. This thing is perfect for a college student or someone who lives alone and doesn't need to brew a large pot of coffee. Here are some quick pros and cons for reference:

Pros:
-Great build quality. Very sturdy, reliable, and looks great.
-Fast and consistent brewing. It only takes about 3 to 4 minutes.
-The reusable "solo-fill" filter works great on this machine and doesn't leak
-Very simple to use
-Adjustable water capacity. Just pour how much you want to brew, as long as it's less than 8 Oz.
-Now available in 3 different colors!

Cons:
-Maximum brewing capacity is low. Only 8 oz. For some, this can be a deal breaker.

Conclusion:
I really love this coffee maker. I rarely give 5-Star reviews but I feel that this Mr Coffee Keurig coffee maker deserves it. It seems much more reliable than the other K-cup makers out there, even when compared to the much more expensive Keurig models. If you want one that you'll fall in love with and won't break your heart later(by dying on you months later) ... this one is it!

Extra Tips:
If you'd like to brew your own coffee and/or reduce waste, I would recommend buying a reusable filter to use with the Keurig coffee maker. Two great brands are the Ecobrew & Solofill. You can use your own coffee without having to constantly buy more k-cups. Of these two, I think the Ecobrew is slightly a better product. I

Review 2:
Firstly, I would like to say to the people who's only complaint is the size.

You should known that when you read the info of the product itself before buying. It clearly says its a single brew. Typically, that is about 8-10oz. I bought this for my fiance, and it was just great to not have to read an instruction guide upon setup. For us, at least. Pretty straight forward. Find a clear spot on the counter, plug it, lift up front part to inset k-cup, close, add water. Booyah. Coffee in seconds. Strength? That all depends on the brew you are choosing. I happen to buy the reusable k-cup insert, which personally to me is what makes the machine shine. Instead of being limted to what k-cups are out there, I can now have any coffee I want. Thank you for saving me a ton of money on this. With the reusable k-cup, I'm not spending about $.30 fir a cup of starbucks.

This clearly appears to be the future of the home brew. Many coffee makers are going to follow suit with their own k-cups in stores. Starbucks only uses the other brand. Tassimo. But chances are everyone is going to jump into the 1-shot coffee makers.

Review 3:
I adore K-Cups...and this is a great brewer! In my house, I am the only one who drinks caffeinated coffee, everyone else wants decaf (yuck). If I want coffee, I need a way to make a single cup.

This pot suits the bill. I've had pod coffee makers in the past and there are some things I did not like about them...firstly, they usually have a tank that holds water for making the coffee. In theory this is great, but in practice the water can sit around for a few days before being used and then it doesn't make very good coffee. In this mini pot, you pour water into the top from the cup you will use, and that is the water that brews your coffee, It doesn't hang around in a tank.

Keurig makes a great cup of coffee. If you want a smallish cup, you can use a regular K-Cup. If you want to make a mug or large cup, I recommend using the 'Travel Mug' size k-cups, and do shop around for the cheapest price because I've seen them for widely varying prices.

This brewer is functionally identical to Keurig's own B30 model, so buy whichever is cheaper.

Review 4:
I have a Keurig coffee maker for my home that I absolutely love. In fact I love the ease and convenience of my Keurig so much I wanted to have that same convenience at work. I had a small coffee maker in my office, but it was a pain in the you-know-what to have to run down the hall and wash the pot and filter basket every time I drink a cup. So in looking for the same Keurig convenience, I researched the Keurig B30/B31 and the Mr. Coffee. Went to Target and looked at both machines. The B31 brews three different cup sizes. The B30 and the Mr. Coffee brew up to a 10 ounce cup - the more water you put in (up to the max. level) the bigger the cup it brews. If I want an espresso shot in the afternoon, I only add 5-6 ounces of water.

I also use solofill adapters, which work fine with the Mr. Coffee. So when it was all said & done, the Mr. Coffee was $20 less expensive than the Keurig and looks better/sleeker. And I like that you push a release to open the water tank - just a cool little feature to watch the door slide open. It brews almost silently and pretty quickly...2 minutes from ice cold water to fresh brewed coffee. If you have one of the Keurig brewers with a water reservoir, you know they can be a bit noisy. There is no reservoir in the Mr. Coffee - 10 ounces in equals 10 ounces out - so no pump to prime. And best of all - no pot or filter basket to clean. I use bottled water which helps with preventing scale buildup. Only problem...others in my office have discovered my new toy and it's becoming the "office" coffee maker. They show up, cup in hand, and ask to "borrow" a cup of coffee.

Review 5:
The machine works pretty good. As so many people have mentioned the 8oz reservoir is a bit small. I really wish it was bigger. I knew when I bought it this was the main complaint, but I bought it anyways. I agreed with the person that said, yes it's small, but if you want more than 8oz just run it again. Seems perfectly logical.

But what does this mean when you get it? Well, it means that if you are like me and have a cup bigger than a 8oz mug you will be running it twice every single time you want a cup of coffee. Which gets old pretty fast. It really makes you hesitate before making a cup, because you think, oh darn I have to run it twice, it's not worth the hassle. Which is sad, because it really does make a good cup of coffee. But, a bigger machine doesn't really fix this either (read on below).

My one big complaint about this brewer is it leaks a bit. I'm yet to figure out why it does. I'm careful to not overfill it or tip it after it's full. The only thing I haven't tried is actually under-filling it and seeing if that helps. It's not a huge leak, but after I run it, if I lift the machine there is always a drop of water about the size of a quarter underneath it. Very annoying. Like I said, I'm going to try and put a little less and see if that helps. I'll update this with my results. I have this on my desk at work, so I have to keep it tidy. I fear if it keeps leaking I'm going to have to call customer service, which I hate doing.

So this raises the question. Why haven't I replaced the brewer with one that has a bigger tank? Simple, someone at work has the B60. Even with the bigger reservoir, have you read the sizes it actually brews? 6, 8, and 10oz. I have 8, I would never want 6, and 10 wouldn't fill my mug either! I'd still have to run it twice! I could get a brewer that does 12oz, but those are at least $179.00, which doesn't fill my 16oz mug either. It just isn't worth it for a person like me that drinks 1 or 2 cups per day.

.......NEW UPDATE!! to 5 stars. I figured out how to stop the leaking. The fill line is very optimistic on the brewer. You have to keep the water just below the full line otherwise it will leak the excess out of the bottom. When the reservoir only holds 8oz it's really tempting to try and squeeze a few extra drops in past the full line, but don't do it, because it goes out the bottom, not into the cup. So I'm going to go ahead and up this to 5 stars. The leaking was my fault.

Review 1:

This unit replaces a Keurig mini that I now us for travel. It makes a flavorful, hot cup of coffee. I have been a Keurig fan for three years. I purchased this machine in Feb. 2010 from BB&B. Like other readers, I have had a few pump problems when there seemed to be an air lock in the pump and water would not flow into the heating chamber. The instruction booklet tells you to turn it off and unplug the unit, then restart. I have found that when I refill the water tank I just need to make sure it is properly seated and tap it to make sure the water is getting into the hose that pumps it into the heating chamber. I also use the hot water feature the first "brew" after refilling the tank to make sure the pump is pulling water. (The easiest solution to the pump "problem" is to not take the water chamber off of the base and just refill it with a pitcher as needed.) I did some online research and found that this pump problem was suppose to have been fixed since I purchased my machine. I might have returned this machine for the newer "fixed" model if the BB&B where I purchased it had not closed. I love the coffee from this machine and have had no further pump issues since employing the solutions noted above.

Review 2:
I have been using a Keurig Platinum Machine for about a year now and had to replace it 2 times. Once for both hot and cold water draining out of the bottom of the unit and the second for making expresso size cups when I asked for the 11.25 oz. cup. I returned the Keurig and got this Brand New Cuisinart about 3 weeks ago. It works great, the water container is larger and the max cup size is 12oz. I get great cups of coffee and the machine works beautifully. I use regular tap water with the charcoal filters and the coffee taste is super. So far this machine is the best I have had and I think Cuisinart makes a superior product every time. You can make your own Kcups since Cuisinart has included one in the side of the machine for your delight at no extra cost.

Review 3:
Absolutely love this product. But I didn't when I first got it! The first couple of brews of coffee had a plastic taste to it. So I filled the tank, added two tablespoons of white vinegar, and brewed cleanly (no coffee) until the tank was empty. I then refilled the tank 2 more times, but without vinegar, and ran it through.

Now the coffee tastes great and I love this machine!!!

Review 4:
I purchased the Cuisinart after going through 3 Keurig B70s and a Brevelle since Christmas, (all three were defective with pump problems and very LOUD.) The Brevelle 700 worked okay but had these really annoying flashing lights that flashed all the time "Open Head". The arrow lights were extremely bright and bothersome.
So far the Cuisinart SS700 works really well. Very little noise and the pump works just fine. I like the larger water tank and nothing flashes at me!

Review 5:
My wife and I began the "single serving" coffee maker quest 4 years ago. We went cheap at first, purchasing a Black & Decker unit for $56...what a disaster!!! Water all over the place and extremely disappointing flavor results. So we decided to quit messing...I do mean MESSING...around and got ourselves the Bunn "My Cafe'" for $350. We were satisfied with the results despite the noises it produced, but found that again, the inconsistency of the results due to varying fineness of the grind between different brands. Too course, it was weak, too fine, the machine had a heck of a time pushing through the water so you had to perform two cycles to get the amount of coffee we desired, plus it put a strain on the pump and discharge line. Well after a year or so, the inline check valve on the discharge line split...leaking water all inside the machine and all over the counter. We decided to get another one since overall we liked the results....and it worked fine, right up to the date we got the Cuisinart SS-700. The deciding factor was we were seeing that Pods were going the way of the Betamax...getting scarce, and expensive online (shipping etc). So I started making my own pods with the "Perfect Pod Maker"....what a pain in the %#*! It was time to make the
switch to the Keurig system! Friends of ours had gotten the basic model Keurig maker a year ago, we weren't particularly impressed with the flavor, plus the noise was horrid. So I did my research and found that the Cuisinart model consistently review positively, and one independent testing outfit said it was flat out the BEST...period. So we took the leap.

First off, it looks impressive! But as I found out, that impressiveness went way beyond it's looks. The initial set up was straight forward and effortless. Even setting up the clock/automatic functions was a piece of cake. My first actual test of it's coffee making abilities was with using the included My K-Cup reusable filter with the coffee I was using to make my own pods with.....ASTOUNDING!!!! 1000% difference in flavor. Plus the noise level was extremely low, it went through the cycle effortlessly. So I said, "okay, what will the pre-packaged cups do?" I was blown away! Fantastic flavor, the temperature was spot on, and virtually no mess. I have since brewed a dozen different flavors/brands, and each one becomes my new favorite....SOLD!!!

I have gone through this long, drawn out review to indicate that I have seen all the rest/best....folks, you CANNOT GO WRONG with this machine. It is the rare combination of not only looking great...my wife LOVES that part, but we both are giddy about the results it produces. And it does so not sounding like a 747. I think what separates this unit from the others is the brewing temperature. All I know is that we are both rediscovering the pure pleasures of a good cup of coffee that is hassle free to make, from a unit that is pleasing to the eye. Take it from someone who has been on all sides of this "single server" equation... the Cuisinart SS-700 will bring you great coffee pleasure...end of sentence!!

Review 6:
Love this coffee maker! After several years of struggling with my Tassimo machine warranty issues and the difficulty of finding T-discs in my area, I decided to make the switch to a K-cup brewer. After reading many reviews, I decided to go with this Cuisinart model because of the 3 year warranty vs. the 1 year warranty of the Keurig brewers. And I am so pleased with this machine. Every cup of coffee has been perfect. Of course you have to experiment with which brand, flavor & strength of coffees you like, but what a luxury that is after having such a limited selection of T-discs before. My favorite feature of this machine is the iced coffee setting!! Now I can brew a quick serving of iced coffee without any hassle. You won't be sorry if you go with this brewer. My advice is to spend the extra few dollars and go for this one!!!

Review 7:
I just recently received my new Cuisinart SS-700 Keurig brewer directly from Green Mountain Coffee - I got it there because it was $20 cheaper than Amazon with my Café Express membership. Anyway... This is the best Keurig brewer out there. The quality is excellent and I like the fact that all plastic that touches water or coffee/tea is BPA-free. Also, I like that it holds 80 oz of water instead of 60 like my Keurig B-70 Platinum brewer that I just sold to my father-in-law. I purchased that one less than two months ago, but I really wanted the Cuisinart version at the time.

I have tried regular K-Cups (coffee/tea), iced tea K-Cups, and the included My K-Cup with Trader Joe's "Joe" coffee. All work very well with Cuisinart's "Keurig-Brewed(tm)" system. The three-year warranty doesn't hurt either. Buy this Keurig brewer - you won't be disappointed.

Review 8:
I did a lot of research before buying my SS Brewing system. There are several good names out there, and Keurig was one that I leaned toward. I was a bit leary after reading the many reviews stating that the Platinum unit was returned over and over due to a defect. The customer service sounded great, but who wants to make a purchase only to have it break down, and expect it to breakdown. I found the Cuisinart SS-700 and the more I read, the more convinced I became that this was the coffee maker for me. 3 year warranty can't be beat! Hope I never have to use it, but glad it's there.

I ordered it orginally from QVC just a day before I found it on amazon.com. The cost through QVC was $30.00 more + the shipping. I had FREE shipping with amazon, I received 12 sample K-cups to try, and the money I saved allowed me to buy some more K-cups!!!

It was a great deal, came with the k-cup for brewing my own coffee, and the instructions for set up and operation of the unit were very simple. I am so pleased with my purchase, and look forward to doing business with amazon in the future. Before you buy a Keurig, check out Cuisinart/Keurig. Same price paid as the Platinum series!

Review 9:
This is the best brewer by far for Keurig K Cup lovers! Extra big reservoir really does make a difference, quiet brewing, cute rinse option and the hot water for tea, hot chocolate etc without having to use the k-cup option is great! Looks terrific and after owning the keurig B60 and B70 previously that after awhile gave an unpredictable size cup of coffee no matter how much I de-scaled and cleaned and using a 3rd (not sure of model) one at work, the SS700 is my favorite by far!

Review 10:
I purchased this coffeemaker for the office. This is the only K-cup brewer that I have found that offers so many beverage sizes: 4, 6, 8, 10, and 12oz. It features a timer, do that it is ready to go when I arrive at the office, and is ready all day. It has a large 80 oz water tank, so I can refill it just once or twice a day. You can set a default beverage size, so you can just put in a K-cup, press Brew, and have a cup of coffee in less than 60 seconds. It has a hot water setting, and a rinse setting that dispenses 4oz of water to clean the brewing chamber of prior residue.

We brew coffee, hot chocolate, and tea with ours. The brewer comes with a My K-cup filter that stows away inside a door on the unit (You can use your own coffee/tea in the reusable filter)

The only downside I see is that sometimes, a few coffee grounds end up on the top edge of the brewing chamber and are somewhat difficult to clean.

Customer Reviews

Review 1:
Being one who loves convenient, but great tasting coffee, I've bought several single-serve coffee machines. The Home Cafe, My Bunn Cafe, and the most recent, Tassimo.

They all worked quite well, considering how "new" they were to the field, and how fresh the field really was at the time, for consumers. I was happy with each purchase(save the Home Cafe, which had a serious mechanical flaw).

I'm not going to spend all my time just comparing the Keurig machine; I'm simply going to say "I wish I'd bought one of these[any Keurig machine] earlier". It meets almost all the desires I had in a single-serve coffee machine.

- Tons of variety in K-cups (which actually can be difficult, I didn't know where to start or what to try!)
- Simple to use
- Beautiful, functional design
- 4 brew size choices
- Keeps water hot for the next cup instead of waiting until you fiddle with the machine
- Can be used with a custom filter K-Cup so you can brew any coffee you like (I'm looking forward to using this with tea too!)
- Much quieter than some machines I've used (the Tassimo is freakishly loud in my opinion)

Those are just some reasons I love this machine. The fact that it makes very good coffee is a big plus too, right? It seems as if the coffee from the Keurig machine tastes less "burnt" than most single serve coffee I've had in the past.

My biggest complaint is the cost. Whether it's worth $200 to you or not, is entirely up to YOU. If you're as obsessed with quick, easy, tasty coffee like I am, maybe you'll agree that it is worth it.

I'm a happy customer, either way.

Review 2:
My wife's Christmas present this year is a Keurig B70 coffee maker. We have a B100 at work that I was very impressed by and we decided that a home machine would nicely fill the need when we might want a cup or two, but might not want to make a full pot.

Long story short: we love the machine. So far, our favorite coffee is Timothy's Kona Blend -- but we haven't tried more than a handful of the scores of varieties of coffees and teas available for the beast. We got the extra filter for when we want to grind and use our own coffee in the machine, but have not yet had the opportunity to try it yet. It is a nice option to have.

We'll still use our Zojirushi thermal carafe brewer when we need a full pot, but the Keurig is wonderful for lesser amounts. Highly recommended.

I learned today that one of the coffee roasters that supplies the K-cups, Green Mountain, just bought Keurig (an American company with a Dutch name). I hope this won't limit the variety of coffees available for the machines -- that would be a major bummer if other roasters bowed out and would cause me to pull my glowing recommendation.

UPDATE 7/30/07: The B70 died today after 8 months of yeoman service. A call to Keurig revealed that the symptoms matched a "bad element" (one would assume heating element). A replacement machine in on its way (arrival in 3-4 days). Keurig doesn't want the old machine back, just a part. Keurig customer service was extremely pleasant and professional. Assuming the replacement machine arrives in good form, the five star rating is intact. I do wonder if there is a generic problem with heating elements in this model -- I'll have to look through the newer reviews to see if I should worry.

Review 3:
I recently purchased the new Keurig B-70 Gourmet Single Cup Home Brewing System that was released on October 1st, 2006 and have been very happy with it. The machine is extremely well designed, simple to operate, aesthetically pleasing, and most importantly, brews an excellent cup of coffee. I am very impressed with how quickly it is able to brew a cup of coffee, the selection of brew sizes, and how simple clean up is.

There are a variety of single cup brewers on the market now, many utilizing pre-packaged coffee "pods" for brewing. Personally I was not comfortable purchasing a product where I would be locked into the selection and pricing of a specific manufacturer, or one that would only brew coffee and not tea and cocoa. This is just one area where Keurig really shines above their competition.

Keurig has gathered support of a variety of gourmet coffee, tea, and cocoa manufacturers and there currently there are over 140 different types sold pre-packaged in K-Cups including Green Mountain, Diedrich, Gloria Jean's, Timothy's, Van Houtte, Tully's, Coffee People, Newman's Own, Celestial Seasonings, Bigelow, Twinings, and Ghirardelli. Not only is there a large selection to choose from, there are a variety of resellers online offering K-Cups, and pricing is extremely competitive.

In addition to the pre-packaged offerings, Keurig offers the My K-Cup Reusable Coffee Filter allows you to use your own gourmet ground coffee in your Keurig home brewer. This option provided the extra level of comfort I personally needed to make the jump into a single cup brewer. Frankly I don't find myself using it very often as I had originally thought, as there are so many options available in pre-packaged K-cups.

The pricing of the Keurig brewers are extremely reasonable, and brews gourmet coffee in just a fraction of the cost of purchasing it from a Starbucks, Coffee People, or similar. I expect that my machine will pay for itself in savings in just a couple months of use.

The only suggestion I have for Keurig is that the My K-Cup Reusable Coffee Filter be included with the sale of the brewer, and not an optional accessory. It is such an inexpensive accessory that I am surprised it was not included. Overall the Keurig brewers are excellent value and quality and would recommend them to anyone interested in a single cup brewer.

Review 4:
My husband and I decided to buy this coffee maker for two reasons. One, we wanted to break our Starbucks habit/addiction and two, because we both have really different tastes in coffee. A traditional coffee maker just wasn't cutting it for us because we couldn't both drink out of the same pot of coffee and ended up wasting a lot of coffee. So this allows us to each brew our favorite coffee without a lot of waste. The coffee maker is very quick to warm up and it's not any louder than our old coffee pot. You can set the brew strength to suit your taste which is really helpful and it even has an iced coffee setting. The large water reservoir is a really nice feature because we don't have to constantly refill the pot, unless of course we are drinking a lot of coffee or tea!

Now, I know the coffee maker is relatively expensive initially so the return on investment will take a little bit of time. With all the myriad of types and flavors of coffee and tea available, we have truly cut down on our Starbucks addiction and have both tailored our K-Cup purchases to suit our individual tastes. My husband makes two to three of his own Vanilla Latte style iced coffees everyday. I've branched out into trying all kinds of different teas in addition to making my own coffee. It does help that several cream companies have come out with some truly delicious flavored creamers to compliment the wide variety of coffee flavors available.

While we can get a few flavors of the K-cups at our local grocery store, Amazon by far has the best selection and best prices. This particular model of coffee maker came with an assortment of coffees so we could try a variety. When you are first starting out with this coffee maker, I would definitely recommend finding an assortment pack so you can decide what your favorites are without having a whole bunch of extra K-Cups left over of things you don't like. Another nice feature that is available for purchase separately is a filter assembly for use with your own coffee. This comes in handy if you have a special coffee flavor that isn't prepackaged by any of the K-Cup makers. Just be sure to use care when you grind your own beans and ensure you read the instructions so you don't use too fine or too course of a grind.

We are extremely please with the quality of this coffee maker and the wide variety of quality coffees and teas available for it. If you have the cash and you are a dedictated coffee drinker, you can't go wrong with this purchase!

Review 5:
I was introduced to this coffee maker about 6 months ago when I spent five days at a lake house in Texas with ten of my gal pals to celebrate my birthday. Each morning we had the thrill of going through the many selections of K-Cups and picking out the perfect one to suit our individual needs for that morning! Everyone got exactly what they wanted - in about 40 seconds. No mess, no fuss, no leftovers to toss away.

After doing some more research into the variety of "single cup" brewing systems I realized that this really is THE ONE TO HAVE. Unlike the Tassimo brewing system, Keurig offers you a variety of gourmet coffee & tea manufacturers to choose from. Don't forget to order the K-Cup Reusable Coffee filter so that you can use your own coffee grounds - yet another option that Keurig offers. Variety is the spice of life so stock up on your favorite herbals teas & flavored coffees and remember to order the Spinning Carousel to hold your choices (27 slots) for easy viewing! There are many websites to choose from that sell these K-cups. Amazon has a decent variety but they're not always available.

We've had so many friends pop in at a moments notice and instead of hurrying to brew a pot of coffee we just direct them to the K-cups and let them choose for themselves. No more making a pot of decaf and then a regular pot to please everyone!

A great feature is that you can set a timer to have the system turn on so when you get up in the morning you have hot water ready to go and then set the timer to turn the machine off at another desired time. Keurig suggests leaving the system on all the time but I think it's unnecessary especially if you're only morning coffee drinkers like us! It only takes about 4 minutes for the water to heat up so if you can't wait that long you've got issues that need to be addressed with a professional.

Get this for your own household and one as a holiday gift to share with someone else. They'll thank you over and over again!
